Had it for one year now, have split approximately 10 cords. The Kohler engine has started on first pull without exception, I am impressed. The only problem I had so far is a hydraulic oil leak developed at one of the fittings going into the control valve which is no big deal to fix.

Best log splitter I have ever used. Web comments indicated “heavy”, but I cannot agree. One man assembly is easily done. The unit can be moved by hand by one person. The balance of the beam -switching to vertical and back- is exceptionally good and does not require much muscle. This is a well designed product. Note: Scale of inches on the bed ought to be inscribed in the metal for durability

Saw this splitter at Lowe’s. Liked the way it was constructed. Took it home, started splitting wood. It is an excellent product, well built, and power to spare galore. It will not disappoint!,,

Before I bought this log splitter I either used a maul, or an 8 ton manual splitter, or borrowed a friend’s gas powered splitter. Since none of these solutions was very convenient I decided I needed my own splitter. After researching models and prices I settled for this one. I had never heard of Dirty Hands tools, but since it was made in the USA I decided I would give it a chance. It was absolutely the right choice. I got it at Lowes fully assembled. I attached it to the towing hitch on my truck and drove it the 30 miles back to my house. I probably could have gone faster but I stayed within the 50 MPH recommended speed, which didn’t please a few people. Once I got it home I added gas – it already had the hydraulic fluid and engine oil, and fired it up. It started on the first pull. Since then I have split a few racks of logs and it has taken everything I have given it, including some whose diameters were probably too big. It was a great investment and I am really glad I have it. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to split a lot of wood.

I bought this unit at Lowe’s during their labor day 2016. It has started easily every time and split a lot of wood. I am thankful for it every time I’m done splitting and not aching like I used to after hours with an axe. I’m very happy with this machine and certainly appreciate the craftsmanship from DHT. It has had a couple minor leaks to deal with, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed quickly. I’m planning on purchasing the log table and maybe the 4 way splitter in the next week or two, and I’m confident that they will be built every bit as well as the splitter. If you’re not sure a 22 ton will get the job done, have no fear. Mine splits oak, maple, walnut, and hickory with no trouble!

This is a great splitter. I have split tons of wood with it. It will take whatever you give it. The only problem I have had is a leak by the hydraulic fluid filter, which I am sure is easily fixable. I would defiantly recommend this splitter.

I have had mine for about 6 months and have split at least 8 cords. The unit starts the first time every time. It is quite easy to move around either with my lawn tractor or by hand.
No complaints at all and would recommend it in a minute.

Good log splitter, strong Kohler engine. The fact you can tip it vertical is great for those big logs. One thing that could be improved is a guard to go over the engine or move the engine to the other side. It’s very easy for a split log to slide off the log catcher and right onto the engine. The fast cycle time is great though. There’s a cheap sticker to measure the logs that gets worn off by the time you have a cord split. I would still recommend the splitter, but would be better with either an end on the log catcher or a guard over the engine.

Used for two summers, 2015 & 2016. Split about 30 cords. Changed oil, kept in dry storage. Did not use it at all in 2017. In spring 2018 it had large fluid pool under it. I assumed maybe the hydrolic filter was not tight, however, after tightening and running machine, it was dripping at a steady rate.
Come to find out the welds along the beam runnimg wheel to wheel holding hydrolic fluid had develped small pin holes in multiple places. Had a buddy weld the ones he could reach, however, the motor has to come off to get the the remaining leaks.
This is upsetting considering its young age and care ive done in its short period of use. Clearly a workmanship quality issue.
Will have to wait until snow comes to find a solution on fixing.
One more thing abiut this machine is when it begins to vibrate, it can get very very loud. Must use ear plugs because its metal on metal thats hitting.
A positive note it will bear down and split the greenest, largest monster logs you throw at it.

I bought this at lowes maybe 5 years ago. My neighbor runs a tree service so I routinely get 3-4′ logs. I bought a tray, available from dht which is 3′ long and covers the motor in the horizontal mode. I dont get any logs under 12″ so run the splitter upright all the time now. We use a wood stove for heat so we split a lot of wood. The moter has a manual rpm lever and we run the splitter at relatively slow speeds. I get about 3 or 4 hrs of splitting out of a tank of gas. I havent had any issues with this splitter over its lifetime. It has a fast cycle time also. The log length sticker is going to wear off right away but if thats your complaint you dont have much to complain about. I highly reccomend this splitter.
